Mrs.Malathi Parasuraman has been appointed as the new Director General of the Department of Agriculture.
The said appointment was made by Mr.Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Agriculture and Mrs.Malathi Parasuraman, who is well versed in agricultural technology, is the only Tamil agricultural activist who has been appointed to the said position thus far. Also, she had been serving as the Additional Secretary of Agricultural Technology Division of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Mrs.Malathi Parasuraman has carried out a lot of researches in the field of Agriculture. She has done many research projects during the period she worked as a researcher in the Department of Agriculture, especially on Yard Long Bean variety Gannoruwa A9, introduction of the first Bean genetic research called HOB-2, introduction of HORDY TOMATO HY3 variety, introduction of new hybrid capsicum variety named “Prarthana”.
Mrs.Malathi Parasuraman recently assumed duties as the Director General of the Department of Agriculture.
The diploma awarding ceremony for 490 Higher Diploma holders and Diploma holders who completed NVQ levels 5 and 6 at Agricultural Schools was held today (16th) at the Polgolla Mahinda Rajapaksa Auditorium under the patronage of Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, Mr. K.D. Lalkantha.
