Assured the Minister by 11 Leftist Parties

 

Party leaders and representatives of an Alliance consisting of 11 Leftist Parties supporting the Government met Agriculture, Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage todayat the Ministry of Agriculture. Secretaries of several Ministries and some experts also joined this occation at which it was discussed measures so far taken to face the critical situation a rising out of the Governments move to ban importation of chemical fertilizer, insecticide and weedicide. Party leaders and representatives were also made aware on the need of producing and distribution of organic fertilizer requirement as well as short term and long term arrangement in this regards. At the discussion leaders and representatives of each party expressed their views and practical issues in the implementation of ban.

 

Party leaders/ representatives commented the Agriculture Minister for implementing agri village programme and soil testing throughout the country.

Jayasinghe, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and officials of the Ministry, Dr(Mr) Priyathbandu Wickrama, Secretary of Ministry of Water Supply, Prof. (Mr) Priyantha Yapa, Secretary of the Ministry of Plantation Industries including some officials also participated at the discussion.

We discussed 03 hours on the organic fertilizer programme and conversion into organic farming for all cultivations ranging from paddy cultivation to plantation crops, on the organic fertilizer requirement and their production distribution programme. Chemical Fertilizer Companies and powerful figures are no doubt standing behind the disrupting this move. We discussed the manner on how to face this challenge. The understanding we got from the Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and officials of the Ministry will be helpful to build good attitude on the path towards organic farming.

Leftist Party Alliance consisting of 11 political parties supporting the Government expressed their opinion today on the move to ban fertilizer importation and they assured their full support to the government’s future programme towards moving into organic farming who were satisfied with the Government’s arrangements for future programmes in this regards.

It is evident that false propeganda compaign is going on against the bold move of the President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to bring about a revolutionized change in agriculture and plantation crop cultivation. We are going to submit to the president soon a three year plan of producing organic fertilizer requirement for plantation crop cultivation sector. All arrangements are with us to bring both plantation crop cultivation and minor crop cultivation under this revolutionized change.
