The Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation states that the Dept. of Agriculture has recommended to issue 176 kg of Urea per 01 ha. of paddy land in the coming Maha season.
This was stated by the Minister while attending a cultivation loan awarding ceremony in the morning today (14) at the Agrarian Services Centre, Netolpitiya. At the inauguration of the loan programme, 10 farmers received cultivation loan of Rs.50,000 each at the hands of the Minister.
In the past Yala season paddy farmers were issued only 100 kg of Urea per 01 ha. However, on the recommendation of the Dept. of Agriculture to apply 70% of Chemical Fertilizer and 30% organic fertilizer, the amount of Urea to be issued in this Maha season has been increased by 76kg. with the increase of the Urea supply per 1 ha. upto 176 kg. the amount to be given for paddy land exceeding 01 ha. will also be increased. In farmer colonies in Polonnaruwa farmers there had been given 02 ha. of paddy lands each they will receive 352 kg. of Urea.
The Minister stated that arrangements have been made to issue Urea and MOP fertilizer to farmer at the moment itself they are in need.
Officials including Mr.A.H.M.L.Abeyratne, Commissioner General of Agrarian Development were also attended this occation.
