The commencement of the second phase of restoration of the Naula Godigamuwa Tank and canal system in Matale District took place on 17.07.2025.
The first phase was initiated approximately five years ago. The Irrigation Department took the initiative to restart this project, which had been halted, and implemented this under the 'Wari Mahima Ape Urumaya’ program being carried out by the government.
The Minister addressed the public and presented several special points: 'People's problems should be resolved through Regional Coordinating Committees. If the problem is not resolved there, it should be resolved through District Committees. People are accustomed to presenting problems directly to Ministers. Systematic problem-solving should be carried out in this manner. That is not the people's problem. We must gain understanding of problem-solving. If the problem-solving methodology is implemented properly, problems can be resolved. You should use the Regional Coordinating Committee. Members of Parliament have a responsibility - if the Regional Coordinating Committee cannot handle it, then take it to the District Coordinating Committee. The members of the District Coordinating Committee are the Members of Parliament. We will utilize these institutions to proceed with our work.”
A group of officials including the Director of Irrigation and the farming community of the area participated in this occasion.
