
The Hon. Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Minister of Agriculture, on Friday (16) made a field visit to Animal Toxicology Laboratory at Polgolla, which plays a major role in the field of animal production in the country.
The Minister observed the unique role of the institute and agreed to develop this institute which has the capacity to manufacture 250,000 vaccines per year and to provide modern equipment required to increase the production up to 01 million vaccines per year. It is expected to reduce importation of vaccines and increase their exportation.
The officers were instructed to immediately remove old equipment and devices currently used in the institute and replace them with modern equipment.
The event was attended by the Deputy Director of the Livestock Board, the Director General of the Department of Animal Production and Health including the officials of the Animal Toxicology Laboratory.
