The Ministry of Agriculture has launched a special program to provide relief to both farmer and consumer communities making His Excellency the President's 'Vision for Prosperity' into reality.

This program is being implemented on the instructions of the Minister of Agriculture, Mahindananda Aluthgamage. This program provides the farmers to get fair price for their productions while giving the consumers an opportunity to buy vegetables at a reduced price.

The market value of the vegetable bag is Rs.700 which consists of 06 types of vegetables namely Carrot, Ceylon Potato, Beet, Tomato, Leeks and Nokol. The consumershave a prospectof buying such vegetables directly without the involvement of intermediaries, so theycould be able to buy such bagof vegetables at a reduced price of Rs. 350.

Under this program, the Agrarian Development Centers purchase the productions from the farmers directly without intermediaries and sell them to the consumers. These activities are carried out by the National Food Promotion Board. Vegetable bags at concessionary price can be purchased at Fort Railway Station, Maradana Railway Station, Isurupaya, Suhurupaya, Sethsiripaya and Nugegoda in the Colombo District. This program is being implemented at 3 locations in the Kandy District with the participation of the Sri Lanka Hadabima Authority.
