Minister of Agriculture seeks a report on the allegation that 65 percent of Urea fertilizer is wasted in paddy cultivation.

Mr.Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Agriculture today (10) instructed the officials to conduct a research into the opinion presented by some parties that 65 percent of the Urea fertilizer used for paddy cultivation is wasted and only 35 percent of the Urea fertilizer used in paddy cultivation is effective and also to investigate the authenticity of the said opinion.

Chinese ambassador requests to further expand the mushroom cultivation in Hambantota district

Mr.Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Agriculture stated that Mr.Qi Zhenhong, the Chinese ambassador to Sri Lanka has requested to take measures to further expand the mushroom cultivation currently being carried out in Hambantota district.

Minister of Agriculture intervenes to solve the issues regarding eggs with the support of all parties

Taking into account the issues that have arisen in regard to the severe shortage of eggs existing in the country, all parties decided to work together, mainly focusing on increasing the imports of eggs and local egg production until the problem is resolved, in a meeting held yesterday (09) at the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Veterinary Drugs Control Authority (VDCA) warns that unrestricted use of antibiotics in animal husbandry may eventually cause adverse consequences for people of the country in the future including increasing antibiotic resistance.

If we do not control the amounts of antibiotics given to animals in animal husbandry, people will not get the desired results from the antibiotics they take for their illnesses.
