The Veterinary Drugs Control Authority (VDCA) warns that unrestricted use of antibiotics in animal husbandry may eventually cause adverse consequences for people of the country in the future including increasing antibiotic resistance.

If we do not control the amounts of antibiotics given to animals in animal husbandry, people will not get the desired results from the antibiotics they take for their illnesses.

The government has allocated Rs.11 billion to provide financial subsidies to 550,000 farmers who cultivate paddy in the Yala Season to buy fertilizer.

Mr.Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Agriculture said that the government has focused on providing a financial subsidy for the purchase of fertilizer for farmers who are cultivating paddy during this Yala Season.

The European Union and United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will officially hand over Rs. 15,000 million worth urea fertilizer and agricultural equipment sets to the Ministry of Agriculture tomorrow (22) as a subsidy provided to the farmers during this Yala season.

70,000 goats will be distributed free to youths interested in goat farming.

Since goat farming is not carried out on a wide scale in our country at present, goat meat and goat milk is imported from foreign countries. A high income can be obtained from goat skin and producing goat manure.
