Ministry Secretary says that it is an utter lie that 5000 acres of land belonged to the Ministry of Agriculture has been given to Avengaurd

Ministry Secretary retired Major General Mr. Sumedha Pereira says that the information which the media reveals about 5000 acres of land belonged to the Ministry of Agriculture being given to Avengaurd Maritime Services Limited for maize cultivation is an utter lie. Mr. Sumedha Pereira further says that the agriculture lands, the seed farms and the research centers are the only properties belonged to the Ministry of Agriculture. The Secretary Mr. Sumedha Pereira said that providing the advisory service on agriculture and the technical assistance is the duty of this Ministry. He adds that the attention has been paid on giving advice and providing technical assistance for a maize farm which is maintained by the said Avengaurd Maritime Services Limited. He further added that providing such assistance to any agricultural farm is a mandatory duty of the Ministry. Ministry Secretary, retired Major General Mr. Sumedha Pereira says that everything revealed with regard to the allegation on being given 5000 acres of land belonged to the Ministry of Agriculture to Avengaurd is untrue.

Special Programme in parallel to “Thripitakabhiwandana Week”- Ministry of Agriculture

A special programme organized by the Ministry of Agriculture to coincide the “Thripitakabhiwandana Week” was held at the Ministry of Agriculture on 22.03.2019. After observing “Panchaseela” and oath taking the programme commenced with the participation of Ministry officials. The memorial oration of the pragramme was delivered by Honorable professor (Mr.) Sumanapala Galmangoda. He said that the proper study of Abidhamma and the language would pave the way for composing of meaningful songs, poems and various other literary pursuits more beneficial to the society. According to him art is in the interest of the society and not for the art itself. Prof. Galmangoda further said that this noble undertaking initiated under the concept of his Excellency the President is an appreciable more through which it would be possible to bring about a national and religious revival. ”Bakthigeetha” were sung by Ministry offials to grace the occasion. Officials including Ministry Secretary K.D.S.Ruwanchandra participated in this progermme.
