The Sri Lanka Tea Board states that they have taken steps to pay USD 60 million by exporting tea from Sri Lanka to Iran to set off against arrears accrued due to the government’s inability to pay for the fuel obtained from Iran since 2011.

Our country had to pay 251 million USD to the Iranian government in the form of arrears for importing fuel to Sri Lanka since 2011.

Sri Lanka Tea Research Institute states that it will be possible to earn an income of 1.5 billion USD this year from the export of tea in Sri Lanka.

63,750 acres ready for green gram cultivation in the field of stubble (Ipanella) in 2024 Mid-Season

The Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries has decided to commence the 2024 Mid- Season immediately after the end of this Yala Season.

Department of Animal Production and Health (DAPH) emphasizes that it will not allow the import of animals and animal products from any country where cases of bird flu have been reported.

Dr. Hemali Kothalawala, Director General of DAPH, mentioned that steps and measures have been implemented to prevent the entry of the Avian Influenza A(H5N1) virus (or “bird flu”), which has recently re-emerged in several countries.
