It appears to the Ministry of Agriculture that views expressed by certain parties on Urea Fertilizer tender to be purchased under World Bank credit for paddy cultivation during Maha season 2022/23 are baseless.
Therefore, the Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera has decided to have a discussion with MPs of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and Trade Union Representatives of that party as well as other MPs who are interested in this Urea Fertilizer Tender.
Accordingly, arrangements have been made to hold this discussion at 12.00 a.m. on 11.10.2022 – i.e. Tomorrow at the Ministry of Agriculture at Battaramulla. The Minister kindly request the above-mention groups to participate at the discussion.
This is not a debatable discussion whatsoever. Therefore, the Minister requests those groups to point out any short comings in this fertilizer purchasing programme and submit their views and proposals relating to this programme considering the same as a national mission for the upliftment of agriculture and for benefits of the farmers in the country.
Making the coming Maha season a success will be the responsibility of we all. Failure of the season means further aggravating of food crisis and mal nutrition. Therefore, at this serious situation it would be the responsibility of we all to enhance the agricultural sector for which assistance of everyone in the country is essential.
Therefore, the Minister welcomes views and proposals of all parties on Urea purchasing and other agricultural issues at this discussion.
