One of the key responsibilities of the government of Sri Lanka is to achieve its food security goals by strengthening fertilizer supply chain and integrated fertilizer management.
A discussion on the future course of action to expedite the implementation of activities aimed at achieving these objectives was held today (June 05) at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, under the guidance of Hon. K.D. Lalkantha, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation. The discussion was chaired by Ms. Janaki Amaratunga, Additional Secretary of the Fertilizer Development Division, with the participation of senior district-level officers of the National Fertilizer Secretariat.
The discussion focused on strengthening the functions of the District Fertilizer Subcommittees, enhancing the efficiency of fertilizer distribution at the district level and addressing issues that have arisen regarding the regulation of fertilizer activities.
Special attention was drawn to the need for promptly implementing a forward plan to ensure the timely availability of quality fertilizer for cultivation without delay. Plans are to be prepared to develop a well-structured program with the collaboration of all stakeholders for proper agricultural input management in Sri Lanka with the aim of ensuring food security.
