Mahinda Amaraweera Hon. Minister of Agriculture has departed to Rome to attend the 19th session on Adaptation of Genetic resources for the promotion of Food Agriculture of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations which is held from 17th July 2023 to 21 in the city of Rome.

This session will be held in the headquarters of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations which is located in Rome, Italy.

Hon. Minister of Agriculture officially met and held a discussion with Dr. Qu Dongyu the Director General of the said Organization yesterday (20).

Hon. Minister has appreciated the co-operation given by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations for the upliftment of Agriculture sector of Sri Lanka in there.

The Minister has mentioned about the huge co-operation given by the said organization in providing fertilizer, seeds, technical support and financial aid needed for the food production for the farmers during the economic crisis situation faced by Sri Lanka since couple of years.

Furthermore, The Minister has submitted a project report in order to seek the assistance of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to enhance the development of variety of rice and the productivity of the rice sector production which will be essential for the Food Security of Sri Lanka in the future.

This Agricultural project report has been prepared by the Department of Agriculture.

In addition, The Minister has mentioned about the commencement of Incentive programs to direct women as an agricultural entrepreneurs and to promote youth entrepreneurship simultaneously.

The Minister stated that, the projects have been success in each and every time the female contribution has given. The female representation is in an optimum level in achieving targets. Therefore, requests the assistance of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations for the programs which will motivate females into agricultural entrepreneurs.

Dr. Jagath Wellawatta, the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Italy also participated for this occasion.
