President awarded gifts for four farmers who recorded the highest paddy yield during 2022-23 Maha season

President Ranil Wickramasinghe awarded gifts for four farmers who recorded the highest paddy yield during 2022/23 Maha season and the Research Officer who produced this high yielding At 362 paddy variety on 3rd July in appreciation of their great endeavor made for the country.

These gifts were awarded on the occasion of 32nd Amarawiru Abhiman program which was held at Magam Ruhunupura International Convention Centre to mark the 32nd year of the political carrier of Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Agriculture.

Accordingly, four farmers namely, Mr.K.P.D.E.Jayasekara, Ms.Mala Paranamaana, Mr.G.Abeysinghe and Mr. Janaka Nuwan Dissanayaka of Ridiyagama, Ambalantota, who recorded the highest paddy yield per hectare during the previous Maha season, were awarded by the President.

These four farmers have received 10-11 metric tons of paddy harvest per hectare. At present, the amount of paddy which can be produced per hectare stands at 3-4.5 metric tons. This is the highest paddy yield ever recorded in the history of this country. The Department of Agriculture has confirmed that all these farmers have cultivated At 362 paddy variety and they have applied chemical fertilizers, organic fertilizers, burnt paddy husks and straw for their cultivation.

Mr.G.A.Jinadasa, Research Officer, who introduced this At 362 paddy variety, was also awarded by the President on this occasion.

Mr.Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Agriculture and Mr.Mahinda Yapa Abewardena, Hon.Speaker were also present at this event.
