The Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mr.Qi Zhenhong made an official visit to Angunakolapelessa in Hambanthota today (17) morning. The Chinese Ambassador participated at the occasion of issuing free fuel granted by the Government of China for Sri Lankan farmers which was held at Angunukolapelassa.
The Government of China granted 10.9 million litres of Diesel for Agriculture and Fisheries sectors. Out that amount, 6.98 million litres were granted for Agriculture sector.
Fuel was distributed to farmers at a ceremony held at a fuel station at Angunakolapelessa. The Chinese Ambassador said that China will extend its fullest cooperation to upgrade the agriculture sector in Sri Lanka and specially, steps will be taken to provide knowledge of modern agricultural technology applied by Chinese farmers to Sri Lankan farmers.
The Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Amaraweera, addressing the occasion stated that he appreciate the assistance provided by the Chinese government for the upliftment of farming community in Sri Lanka and agreement was made to provide the knowledge of modern agricultural technology used in China to Sri Lankan farmers.
The Commissioner General of the Department of Agrarian Development, MR.H.M.L.A.Aberathne and several other officials participated at this occasion.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Ambassador also attended the event of harvesting paddy at Bindunkadulla Yaya at Weeraketiya, Attanayala. A large number of farmers at Attanayala warmly welcomed the Chinese Ambassador and the Minister of Agriculture for this event.
