Sri Lanka exports 12,500 kg of Ambul Bananas to Dubai market on this 26th for the first time.

Ambul banana cultivation at Rajanganaya which has been cultivated under Agri-Demonstration Park programme implemented throughout the island by Agriculture Sector Modernization Project (ASMP) of the Ministry of Agriculture has now become very successful.

Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation, Mahinda Amaraweera said that arrangements had been made to export the first shipment of Ambul babanas which have been cultivated using modern agricultural technology to Dubai market on the 26th of this month.

With the aim of earning foreign income to overcome the foreign exchange crisis which Sri Lankan economy is currently experiencing, banana cultivation is carried out on 200 acres of land area under this Ambul babana cultivation project.

Agriculture Sector Modernization Project (ASMP) has provided necessary financial assistance, modern technical knowledge, instructions and training to farmers. Further, the said project has extended the support in planting ambul banana seedlings under ZigZag method, providing necessary equipment for drip irrigation technology, cultivation of any other crops other than banana and assisting the farmers to make liaison with business entities under buy-back system which enables them to earn high income.

A quantity of 12,500 kg of Ambul bananas packed in a 40-foot container will be exported to Dubai market on the 26th of this month as the first shipment of Ambul bananas to be exported to the foreign market.

The Director of Agriculture Sector Modernization Project (ASMP), Dr.Rohan Wijekon said that arrangements had been made to export 12,500 kg of Ambul bananas to Dubai Market in every Saturday.
