Sale outlet network of the National Food Promotion Board are extended providing people with the opportunity of purchasing food at concessionary price


Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Minister Mahinda Amaraweera stated that Paddy Marketing Board is taking action to buy paddy harvest of this Yala season and the coming Maha season while suitable arrangement has been made to provide consumers with sufficient quantity of rice required for consumption without any shortage.

Following the modernization of food sale outlet of Dehiwala owned by the Food Promotion Board, supply of services commenced today (06) symbolizing the further strengthening the sales outlet network of the National Food Promotion Board.

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and the Secretary of the Minister Mr.Rohana Pushpakumara also participated on today’s opening ceremony.

The Minister of Agriculture has made arrangements to provide people with the opportunity of buying food and dried rations including rice, vegetable and fruit at a subsidized price than the price prevailing in the market.

The National Food Promotion Board has planned to increase the supply of food through its expended sale network as a measure of supplying food to people in order to minimize difficulties faced by them in buying food from the open market.

PMB Rice will be issued through Dehiwala sale outlet of the National Food Promotion Board.Bag of spice at the reduced price of Rs 1000/= could also be purchased from those sale outlets.

Speaking further the Minister Mahinda Amaraweera stated the objective of the National Food Promotion Board is to protect the consumers from Rice “Mafia” prevailing in the open market.He further stated that people could also purchase Milco and NLDB milk productions through these expanded sale outlet network.
