It has been decided to release 1215 ha. to the Sri Lanka Army and 500 acres to the Department of Rehabilitation from Kandakadu Farm for cultivation of maize.

The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to entirely utilize Kandakadu farm owned by the National Livestock Board for cultivation during the coming Maha season.

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera stated that the Cabinet of Ministers approved the Cabinet Memorandum which proposed to release 1215 ha. to the Sri Lanka Army and 500 acres to the Dept. of Rehabilitation from Kandakadu farm for cultivation.

A discussion in this regard with the participation of all stake holders was held today (23) at the Ministry of Agriculture.The Minister further stated that arrangements will be made to cultivate all lands in Kandakadu farm consisting of 11,000 acres in keeping with the government's decision to cultivate every arable land to overcome the impending food crisis.

It is expected to cultivate maize and grass in land areas to be made available to the Army and the Dept. of Rehabilitation to facilitate dairy farming.

The Minister also stated that action will be taken to cultivate paddy in 250 acres of land under conservation zone, Lahugala by National Civil Defence Force.

Addressing the media the Minister said that suitable actions will be taken by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to supply fuel through 247 filing stations to farmers for harvesting their Yala season cultivation.
