The Minister of Agriculture issues instructions

  • Health regulations shall be strictly followed at all Dedicated Economic Centres (DEC)
  • Deploy members of the Civil Security Force or even the police and the army wherever necessary.
  • Make an arrangement not to have any impact on other economic centres due to the closing down of Dambulla DEC.

Agriculture Minister MahindanandaAluthgamage instructed relevant officials to make suitable arrangement not to have any impact on other Dedicated Economic Centres although the Dambulla DEC has been closed down for 14 daysin view of the prevailing Covid pandemic situation. These instructions were issued at a discussion held in the Ministry with all DEC Managers in the island. State Minister ShashendraRajapaksa, Ministry Secretary Anil Wijesiri and officials of the same Ministry, Director Department of Civil Security and Trade Association Representatives of Economic Centre participated in the discussion at which the Ministers stressed the necessity of strictly following health regulations at all Dedicated Economic Centres and the importance of obtaining assistance of the Civil Security Department, Police and Armed Forces. The relevant officials were informed to make alternative arrangements for farm producers to sell their products in view of the closure of Dambulla Economic Centre. The Minister MahindanandaAluthgamage also instructed officials to take immediate action to issue temperature chekingequipments including other requirements to all Economic Centres.The Minister Stated that the purchasing of farm produce shall not be disturbed in any way due to the closing down of Dambulla DEC amidst prevailing Covid pandemic situation. The necessary arrangement shall be put in place jointly by Trade Associations and Management of the Economic Centres. The Minister also emphasized the responsibility of both parties during this critical situation and the necessity of taking effective measures by DEC Managers to minimize difficulties experienced by the farmer and the consumer.
