Although B onion production is successfully done in the country we are yet importing to meet the national requirement Intension of the President is to strengthen the local agriculture and put an end to crop production imports. The President has entrusted this enormous responsibility to the Ministry of Agriculture. All arrangements have been finalized to bring 5000 hactares under B onion cultivation in 2021. 25000 kg of seed B onion is required for implementing this under taking. Accordingly steps have already been taken to undertake seed B onion project in Digampathana area within the Agrarian Service Centre area of KimbissaDuring his inspection tour the Minister met farmer families who are contributing to the project. ‘’ Every family unit joining the project will be given material support to the value of Rs. 2.5 Million by the Government. which include a fully pledged modern storage facility, spraying irrigation system and seed production Tunnels etc. We believe those assistance would contribute fully to make this undertaking a success. One kilogram of seed B onion could be produced out of 10 kg of B onion production. Storage facility to store 3000 kg of B onion would be provided to each family. Even after loss reduction of 30%, 2500 kg are left to the farmer who will be in a position to produce 250kg of seed B onion sufficient to undertake 5000 ha cultivation target of the year easily.
