National Drive for Asweddumization of Abandoned Paddy Londs. (Fallow Paddy Loud)

 

At 9.00 a.m. on 25.03.2021

 

  • The total extent of abandoned paddy land in Sri Lanka is 100,000 acres.
  • It has been planned to commence asweddumizing land beloned to 320 Agrarian Services Centres on 25.03.2021 for Yala season of 2025 (The National Ceremony will commence with the asweddumizarion of 140 acre-extent paddy land in PaharuOya area within the Agrarian Services Division of Dompe.)
  • With the ‘’Asweddumization of 28,000 acres of abandoned padd lands, 35000 MT National Paddy Production.
  • All abandoned paddy lands and canals will be cleared and restored.
  • A sum of Rs.25,000 will be given to cultivate one acre.
  • The Government will provide fertilizer, technology and machenery and equipment.
  • Under this programme, it has been made compulsory to asweddumize at least 10 acres in one Agrarian Services Division.

Accusations of SamagiJanabalaWegaya

  • From where to obtain rice at Rs.98
  • Hoarding rice is by non other than those in the Government
  • Although we are told that rice is not imported the Government is going to import 100,000 MT of rice.
  • Officials of Ministries of Trade and Finance are behind the importing Mafia of rice to obtain commissions.
  • Although they are bosting of the dignity of ourselves and promise to protect the farmer, the government is yet importing other field crops such as cowpea and Greengram.
  • Both local farmer and consumer are in dilemma.
  • The Government has also imported local farmer
  • Price of commodities will be unbearable to the consumer during the coming festive season.
  • The Paddy Marketing Board has not bought even 20,000 MT of paddy yet remaining far behind from the target.
  • Failure of the Government will be sawcased when 100,000 MT of Ponni Samba are imported from India.
