Engineering

 

The Engineering division is involved to consult and supervision of all the construction and maintenance work in the ministry and facilitates the Technical related matters to the institutions under the Ministry.

 

Main duties & responsibilities

 

  • As routine work under Engineering Division, maintenance activities of "govijana mandiraya" building and repairing activities related to machinery equipment like photocopy machines, air conditioners take place.
  • Also maintenance and repair works of quarters, circuit bungalows and other related buildings are done as routine works.
  • Coordination and supervision of engineering aspects of projects funded by World Bank, as follows:

I. CSIAP - Climate Smart Irrigated Agriculture Project

II. SAPP - Small Scale Agri-Business Participation Programme

III. ICDP - Inclusive Connectivity Development Project

 

I. CSIAP - Climate Smart Irrigated Agriculture Project

Under the project engineering aspect related activities are commenced under Director General's (Engineering) coordination.

Village Irrigation schemes of Sri Lanka are restored, rehabilitated and modernized, by the Project Director's office.

Irrigation schemes associated structures are considered to be tanks, anicuts and cascades are renovated.

II. SAPP - Small Scale Agri-Business Participation Programme

Several subprojects are present under this program mainly focusing on improving the livelihood of rural people and agribusinesses in several districts including Anuradhapura, Ampara, Kalutara, Kegalle, Badulla, Monaragala, Ratnapura.

Under all these sub projects infrastructure development activities on behalf of the ministry will be done under coordination of Director General (Engineering). Those infrastructure development activities include:

1.Tanks,canals,sluice gate improvement.

2.Improvements of milk collecting points.

3.Road development.

4.Establishment of channeled marketing system.

5.Improvement of community agro wells.

III. ICDP - Inclusive Connectivity Development Project

Main focusing objectives:

  • Engage local communities and local contractors to repair, reconstruct market collecting points or agriculture centers.

To fulfill above objectives renovation of stores, chilling centers, collecting centers, markets and helabojunhala food courts and solar panel installation will be done.

IV. Construction of Storage Facilities for Small Scale Farmers.

All the payments are certified by Director (Engineering).

  • Giving instructions to all constructions and technical works carried out by ministry
  • Preparation of cabinet papers, project reports related to constructions under ministry and supervision of those constructions when necessary.
  • Giving technical instructions to the ministry procurement committee.
  • Coordination and supervision of engineering, technical and technological activities of Agriculture Department and other institutions under the ministry, when necessary.
  • Coordination and giving technical instructions for constructions of farmers' trust fund (FTF).
