Addressing a staff officers ‘ meeting of the National Livestock Development Board held on 14 January 2019 P.Harison ,Minister of Agriculture, Rural Economic Affairs, Livestock Development ,Irrigation and Aquatic Resources stated that arrangements would be made to distribute fresh milk among urban dwellers using mini bowsers available from the NLDB which will be launched this year as a pilot project.
With the use of mini bowsers cooled fresh milk are distributed in countries like India with the multiple objectives of increasing nutrition position of the people, reducing milk imports and enhancing the living standard of the local dairy farmer. Further stating the Ministry expressed his desire to distribute local fresh milk among the people who are in need of fresh milk.
According to the Minister, it is essential to formulate a comprehensive plan to upgrade the loss – making Livestock farms run by the National Livestock Development Board.
Officials of the National Livestock Development Board made the Hon. Minister aware of their plans to open syledge animal production centers in Anuradhapura and Monaragala and the establishments of slaughter House in Martin Livestock farm, chilaw for popularization of locally produced Beef and Pork among consumers.
The Minister Pointed out that the National Livestock Development Board is responsible for introducing milk – based productions to the people, selling of NLDB owned farm production such as snipe eggs and mutton through its sale outlets.
Professor Syril , Chairman , NLDB and Mr. K.D.S.Ruwanchandra and some high ranking officials were attended the meeting.
