Agriculture, Rural Economic Affairs, Livestock Development, Irrigation, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister P. Harrison stated that the first phase of granting compensation to farmers affected due to fall Army warm damage will commence from Ampara District.
According to the Minister 307 farmers whose cultivations were fully damaged are entitled to receive compensation of Rs.40, 000 per acre. The Government is to spent a total of Rs.16 Mn.for payment of compensation. Surveys on damages were conducted jointly by the Agriculture Insurance Board, Dep .of Agrarian Development and officers of the District Secretariat, Ampara. Farmers in Agrarian Services Divisions of Maha Oya , Padiyathalawa, Akkaraipattu, Eragama, Kalmunei,Namalthalawa, Pothuvil,Madathagama and Central Camp in Ampara district will receive compensation at District Secretariat Auditorium , Ampara at 10.00 a.m on Sunday the 10th Of March .
Compensations are Given to farmers in Ampara, Anuradhapura and Monaragala Districts under 1st stage . The Ministry has allocated Rs.250 Mn. for this purpose.
