Services to be provided by the Organic Fertilizer Division

1. Co – ordination of Training Programmes on Compost Production and Use

Awareness  programmes on organic fertilizer production and use are held free of charge at the Regional Agricultural Research and Development Centre, of Makandura, which being the pioneering training center of the Organic Fertilizer Programme in the island. Anybody who is interested in organic fertilizer production could attend this training programme. These training programmes are organized by the centre upon requests by any institutions or organizations for the benefit of farmers, producers, school, children, teachers, state officials or NGOS. One day training covers all aspects of organic fertilizer production and utilization which includes the theoretical and practical training as well. Tea, lunch and a leaflet sets are provided to the participants free of charge. In addition to the training programmes, the following services are also provided.

  1. Necessary instructions and technical   advice for organic fertilizer producers.
  2. Analysation of chemical composition in compost, soil, water and parts of plants.

2. Registration of Organic Fertilizer Producers

The Organic Fertilizer Division of the Ministry of Agriculture has taken action to register organic fertilizer producers throughout the island to   encourage to make quality organic fertilizer.
Accordingly, it is expected to increase the organic fertilizer production, promoting the use of organic fertilizer to increase the efficiency of chemical   fertilizer to obtain high yield.

3. Upon the submission of the analytical report by crop producers to the Organic Fertilizer Division, necessary instructions are issued to improve their product.

4. Technical instructions are given to those interested in producing compost on commercial basis.

5. Co – ordination among compost producers, sellers and users for the benefit of each other.
