Regional Manager who behaved fraudulently at the sale of 30000 MT of stored paddy of the Paddy Marketing Board was apprehended in Kilinochchi area by the Criminal Investigation Department

A businessman purchasing paddy has complained to the Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage that a Regional Manager named Rathnayake has obtained a commission of Rs. 03 per 1kg of paddy at the purchasing of 1.2 Million Kilogram of paddy.

The same businessman has informed the Minister that the said Manager is requesting commissions from him at the purchasing of balance amount too. Accordingly the Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has complained to the CID on the last 24th day December.

In pursuance of the complaint, the CID officials apprehended that Regional Manager today in Kilinochchi along with the bribed money. During the tenure of office of the previous government , a large scale frauds were committed at the purchasing of paddy on the pretext that the purchasing are for animal feed whereby depriving the Government of Billions of Rupees. It is those corrupt officers who are still indulging in fraudulent practices. This officer, too is an individual of the same group. The government is taking action to maintain a buffer stock by purchasing 0.3 Million MT of paddy during Maha season through Paddy Marketing Board and to face the Rice Mafia. That is why instructions were issued for emptying stores by selling 30000 MT of stored paddy. By using this situation to his owned advantage the suspect committed this fraudulent practice by obtaining commissions at the rate of Rs. 03 per one Kg of Nadu and Rs.10 per one Kg of Samba.
