Minister, Mahindananda Aluthgamage gives the instructions to the relevant officials

 

A progressive review meeting on the progress and the future programs for 2021 of the State Ministry of Livestock Farms Promotion, Milk and Egg Based Industries was held today. This meeting took place in the Ministry Office. Minister of Agriculture and State Minister D.B. Herath and relevant high rank government officials also had been attended this meeting. Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, during this meeting, gave instruction to make arrangements to fill the vacancies in actual posts and acting posts under relevant Ministry in order to implement an efficient program. The Minister underlined the necessity of necessary actions to increase milk product and said that he is prepared to provide all the supports including financial provision through government and foreign aid projects.  

 

337 Veterinary Centers are in operation throughout the Island. State Minister D.B. Herath proposed during this meeting to initiate activities like encouraging and training animal breeders and milk producers with collaboration of Farmer related Organizations. The State Minister who highlighted that Milko Company including certain officers associated with this field are working along with private sector, for money pumped by companies and asked the Chairman of Milko Company to implement a proper procedure in this regard. Minister, Mahindananda Aluthgamage said that National Livestock Board has reached a little progress for 2020 but it is not found in a satisfactory level and therefore the Minister gave instructions during the meeting to its Chairman to initiate necessary measures in order to get further progress within 2021 in a better level than that of level reached in previous year.     

 

The Minister gave instructions to make use of the unutilized lands of the People Estate Development Board and the Ministry of Agriculture to grow pasture and prepare plans taking the number of milk cows to be brought in future into account. In this meeting, it was proposed that the terms ‘producer instead of milk farmer’ and ‘fresh milk instead of liquid milk’ must be changed in a positive way and brought its effect among people.  The Minister, during this meeting, said that all should actively work to make the year 2023 into self-sufficient in milk without forgetting the target saying problems and problems, and the government is prepared to solve all the issues. Minister, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, during this progressive meeting, indicated that the dedication and the fund allocation by the government are not reaching the primary level properly. The Minister further said that the progress of the funds allocated through 2021 budget must be reported according to first, second and third quarters basis.     

 

The Minister, during the meeting itself made arrangements to organize the funds for the construction of stores facilities at Weerawila, Polonnaruwa, Oyamaduwa and Ridhiyagama National Livestock Boards. The Minister further took necessary actions to set up elephant fences around the farms. State Minister D.B. Herath, during this meeting highlighted that necessary arrangements ought to be made to increase the milk product at district level.  Minister, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, during this progressive review meeting, asked the relevant authorities to actively work for the purpose. During this progressive review meeting, it was highlighted that relevant officers should work in field actively to identify the milk producers breeding more than 05 milk cows at village level and provide them necessary training and technologies as well as promote them. It was further indicated at this meeting that not to be limited only to the discussion but to come forward to provide necessary assistance and cooperation to bring all these into reality.
