A Special Secretariat to coordinate Foreign Aid Projects of Agriculture Sector

A Special Secretariat to coordinate the foreign aid projects relating to the Ministry of Agriculture and the State Ministries coming under it purview was declared opened. 

This Secretariat has been stationed in the premises of the Ministry of Agriculture. Many Island-wide agriculture projects are being implemented under “IFAD” which is the International Fund for the World Bank and the agriculture development. Monitoring particular activities for the respective projects, undertaking them in an efficient manner and regulating them through a proper coordination are the functions of this new secretariat. The official functions of this new secretariat were initiated under the chair of the Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage. This event was graced by the State Ministers D.B. Herath and Mohan Silva, and Retired Major General Sumedha Pereira, the Secretary to the Ministry including government officials and the representatives of foreign aid projects.  


Many foreign aid projects from homestead to large scale agriculture are implemented. However, yet no, a proper coordination and a network with regard to them carried out. This new secretariat is expected to fulfill that gape and carry out the monitoring activities of these foreign aid projects in an effective productive manner where the country could get use. Providing new technology assistance under the trend of traditional agriculture is another function which is carried out by these foreign projects. It has been planned to carry out particular coordination affairs through this new secretariat where the knowledge of such technology could reach the farmers throughout the country.


Many agreements were signed in this secretariat itself between the Ministry of Agriculture and the agriculture entrepreneurs. Retired Major General Sumedha Pereira, Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture on behalf of it and the agriculture entrepreneurs on behalf of them signed in these agreements. This coordinating secretariat of the foreign aid projects was established as a part of the series of programs which make this country towards in a new journey while protecting the farmers and the consumers.
