Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Minister of Agriculture states that the Dedicated Economic Centers will be kept opened only for wholesale trading. Though the quarantine curfew is in operation in Western Province, it has been decided to keep opened these Dedicated Economic Centers, from 04.11.2020.
Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said that this decision was taken during the discussion which took place at the Temple Tree today as per the instructions given by His Excellency the President Mr. Gottabaya Rajapaksha, under the chairmanship of Basil Rajapaksha, the Chief of the President Special Taskforce for Economic Rehabilitation and Elimination of Poverty. Accordingly, the government has taken a decision to send the employees of the Dedicated Economic Centers at Rathmalana, Narahenpita and Bokundara on 03.11.2020, for PCR tests and keep opened such centers for business.
Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and State Minister Sashindra Rajapaksha including many officials had made a visit to these Dedicated Economic Centers. Despite of the curfew which is in operation, the government has taken a decision to implement a work-plan for distributing the essential food items for the people without causing any difficulties. The Minister highlighted that it was decided at the discussion that the retail trading should not be carried out and wholesale traders having permits should be given opportunities.
The Minister here further stated that during the said discussion, it was decided to implement a special work-plan to distribute the goods by way of keeping the Super Market Complexes opened and issuing permits for 15 vehicles maximum for an institute.
However, Dedicated Economic Center at Weyangoda is already in operation. The Minister said that after this observation visit, the immediate action will be taken to keep opened even the Dedicated Economic Center at Welisara.
