World Bank Project Office to Minimize Climate Impact


Agriculture, Rural Economic Affairs, Irrigation and Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister P.Harrisan declared opened the World Bank Project Office at the premises of the Department of Irrigation for co-ordination of all offices operating in times of disasters by using modern technology for collecting data on climatic changes in Sri Lanka. Through this office it would be possible to forecast disastrous situations and educate people so that they may take precautionary measures in such situations with the ultimate objective of minimizing climatic impact.

Senior Officer each will represent the Dept. of Irrigation, Dept. of Meteorology Building Research Institution, Department of Agriculture, Disaster Management Centre, Ministry of Fisheries and the National Aquatic Resources Agency at this project office.

Memoranda of Understanding signed by Fasil Casim , State Minister of Health and Official including Mr.A.R.Subbiyah, Director RIMES, Dr. Sriniwas, DG. Irrigation Mr. Mohan Raja, Senior Addl. Secretary to the president Mr. Sisira Kumara, Addl. Secretary Ministry of Irrigation Mr. Alwis, Addl. Director General Dept of Meteorology Mr. A.K. Karunanayeka, Director of the Disaster Management Centre Brigadier. Athua between the World Bank and the Dept. of Irrigation, Disaster Management Ministry with the Ministry of Irrigation were also exchanged on this occasion.
