In view of the coming festive season prices of essential Food Commodities are reduced – Minister P.Harrison.

Minister P.Harrison, Chairman of the Sub Committee on Cost of Living stated today (21) that the Committee has decided to reduce Duty on imported dry chilies by Rs.20 from Rs.25 to Rs.5 per 1kg and imported fish by Rs.75 from Rs. 100 to Rs. 25 per 1kg.

Accordingly, the market price of both commodities will be reduced considerably. The current market price of dry chilies remains at Rs.450 to Rs.500.

Approval has also been granted to import chicken and eggs in order to control the price for the festival season.

The Minister further stated that the Government has decided to release 48,000 MT of paddy currently remaining at Government stores to small and medium scale Mill Owners to mill them into rice and immediately sell through C.W.E at Rs.80 per 1kg of Nadu and at Rs.85 per 1kg of Samba.
