Minister P. Harrison stated that whatever political party would come into power, a National Policy on Agriculture in favor of the country would be introduced in the near future.
So said the Minister expressing views to the Media following a discussion held with the state officials in Anuradhapura on conducting of “Fresh Rice Offering ceremony this year.
According to the Minister it is essential to formulate and implement a National Agriculture Policy both in the interest of the farmer community and for strengthening Agriculture in Sri Lanka.
The Minister further stated that this Cultivation Policy shall be implemented urgently by paying special attention on crop species being imported.
He pointed out that the other objective of this move is to restrict the importation of potato during harvesting season.
The Minister pointed out that it is desirous of introducing an effective agricultural policy through a panel of experts based on views of every state .holder such as scholars , political authority, entrepreneurs, under graduates , farmer community and farmers organizations.
